In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “(Extra)ordinary.” Actually it’s very ordinary, except when it’s still in its extraordinary stage.

DP Writing Prompt: Your Number One

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Your Number One.”
What was the #1 song when you were born?

I think it was much earlier than my time of birth as I’m not sure when this song got super popular in Singapore but being a British colony, English songs were common. We sang Chinese songs in several dialects, Malay songs, Indian songs (in various Indian languages) … the list goes on.

But the 1 song I kept hearing, from mum and Doris Day, was Que Sera Sera. It just stuck to me because it began with “When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, what will I be …” and that’s what I actually did, asked my mother what will I be. We kept playing with the song and it’s words back and forth until … I guess either the 45 rpm record got scratched or broken &/or the record player/phonograph died a natural death from wear and tear.

This song has always reminded me of mummy ~ yes, I even played it at her funeral.

Then one day, after moving to the US and while taking elementary Spanish lessons, I realized that Que Sera Sera was actually Spanish! Why I never found out earlier I will never know.

I still hear that song occasionally especially at mom-&-pop cafes; think of mum and wonder what she would say if she was still around and I told her so much has happened since she told me “Que Sera Sera“, whatever will be, will be.

DPW Photo Challenge: Madam Butterfly

Madam Monarch Butterfly was stationary!  Yes, for almost half a minute she obligingly posed for shots while sipping her (breakfast) nectar and I made sure I kept my 6ft distance, moving slowly with camera in hand (without tripping over mulch and/or fallen twigs).

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “From Every Angle.”
